International Garden Photographer of the Year

Our Managing Director at Floramedia UK, Nick Mathias, recently attended the exciting launch of the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) competition at Kew Gardens.
As sponsor of 'The Beauty of Plants' category, we were delighted to view the winning photo by Amy Duffy. Her stunning image, Amethyst Tears, took first place in this highly coveted section.
Amy said: “I felt very honored when I learned I had received the 1st place award for Beauty of Plants! It was rewarding to know that others connected with my work, and this recognition encourages me to continue pushing my creative boundaries.
“I’m drawn to photographing flowers because each one feels unique, almost as though it has its own personality. When you look closely, you notice all the little details — the curves of the petals, the colors, the way they open or bend. There’s something peaceful and beautiful about them, and I love capturing those details.”
It is the second time that Amy has entered her work in the category, which celebrates the ephemeral beauty of a plant – from seed to compost. The category seeks photos that truly capture the essence, or character, of a plant.
Nick shared: “We’re thrilled to be part of the IGPOTY Competition 18, supporting and encouraging photographers at every stage of their journey.
“Plant photography is such a vital part of the horticulture industry. As the leading provider of plant labels in the UK, we know how influential a captivating shot can be.
“Amy’s photo of a purple Siberian Iris really captured its stunning beauty.””
The touring exhibition will be at Kew Gardens until 16th March before it goes on tour. Some of the main categories on display include ‘The Beauty of Plants’, ‘Beautiful Gardens’, ‘Breathing Spaces’, ‘Trees, Woods, and Forests’, ‘Wildflower Landscapes’, ‘Wildlife in the Garden’, ‘The World of Fungi’, ‘Plants & Planet’ and ‘Abstract Views’.
